Description: This study draws on the results of IDCs European Vertical Market survey, carried out in March/April 2005 in the top 5 Western European countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K.) among 728 SMBs with between 20 and 499 employees. This study shows SMBs IS operating budget evolution, channel selection, and customer satisfaction with their primary IT suppliers performance. Results are divided by company size (20–49, 50–99, 100–249, 250–499 employees) in the top 5 Western European countries in the following vertical markets: banking; insurance and other finance; discrete manufacturing; process manufacturing; healthcare services; transport, telecommunications, media, and utilities; retail and wholesale; business services; education; and government. Western European SMBs consider technical skills as very important and they are fairly satisfied with their suppliers performance on this matter. On the other hand, they are less satisfied with the low cost of ownership, while they consider it one of the three most relevant issues when choosing an IT supplier, said Laura Converso, senior research analyst with IDCs European Small and Medium Business service.
